This morning I was scanning Google Reader and this picture popped up into my screen. It stopped me dead in my tracks. This is the very costume that I wore for years as a kid. My mom made it for me one year for halloween, and I was thrilled! For years afterward it was my costume of choice both for Halloween, and for other events.
One such event included my sister Jessica, and I dressing up and acting out scenes from Phantom of the Opera. My sister would play Christine and I would, in my Batman outfit, play the Phantom of the Opera. The consisted of me chasing my sister around our living room and her hiding in between the bookshelves. We also liked playing out the beginning auction scene from the musical.
For years this costume brought me so much fun and enjoyment. It was my first cosplay. I really enjoyed those times.
Awesome! My mom used to always sew us Halloween costumes when we were young–going to the fabric store to leaf through pattern books was something of a ritual. At that age, though, I usually chose something like a Disney princess or an animal of some kind. Probably my coolest costume was a lobster. I did have SilverHawk wings and a Superman cape (with my own initial on it instead of the S). So there’s a little geek cred there.
