They Aren’t Coming

What is it about books and stories that fascinate us so much?  Why do we, as human beings, attach ourselves to the heros of these stories, and read with fervent interest in their adventures?  Is it really that we hope that one day someone will come and tell us we are a wizard, or ask us to go on an adventure?  Do we secretly hope that someday someone will come and take us away from our routine lives, and tell us we are special?

I’ve noticed that many of the stories I enjoy are about ordinary people, who have extraordinary experiences thrust upon them. Captain America was a less than ordinary human with a drive to achieve.  Bilbo Baggins was an ordinary Hobbit who was very happy with his peaceful life.  Harry Potter was just a boy who wanted to be loved.

Are stories like these, and so many others, clues to how we feel as a society?  Do we feel helpless and powerless over the events taking place in our own lives, and if we do, is there anything we can do to change it?

I know many people, including myself are feeling restless with the current state of our country.  Many of the posts I have seen online show a building frustration, and fear of helplessness with the events going on.  I myself have found a certain sense of irritation as accepted truths fall, and lies are exposed.

Just to give you a few examples of some of the things bothering me as of late…

  1. Our political system is a joke, and we have a candidate running for president who has no regard for the people he claims he wants to serve and represent.
  2. Some of the articles and books I have read about what is being put into our food, and even how food, and animals are treated sickens me.
  3. I’ve struggled with religion most of my life, but recently some of the hateful and borderline violent things I’ve seen in the last few days, all in the name of God or religion is depressing.

With all this and more going on in the world it’s understandable why so many feel a sense of unease, restlessness, and fear.  But the reality is, no one is coming to save us.  Hagrid isn’t coming, and I am pretty sure Gandalf is lost. So how do we rise above all that is going on?  If we know that no one is coming, how do we become our own kind of hero?

We certainly have enough evil villains to fight, but the question is how?  How do we take action that will actually make a difference?  How do we fight the bad guys and win?

Anonymous Strikes First ~ Donald Trump

A few days ago I posted a video from Anonymous.  The video stated that the group was declaring war on Donald Trump.  It seems they were serious in their threats, and have released a powerful video, and a gift to all who watch the video.

What are you thoughts on Anonymous and its war with Donald Trump?

Anonymous Declares Total War on Donald Trump

Unless you have been living under a rock you are probably aware that a presidential election is in our very near future.  Normally I avoid politics like the plague, but this election is one I simply do not understand.

The candidates are petty and cruel, seemingly caring more about themselves then the country or its people.  None of them seem to have any actual plan, and worse the candidates themselves are all very scary individuals.

Years ago I remember watching the movie V For Vendetta.  It was a movie that seemed to speak to me at my core, but today I am reminded of one particular line from the movie.

Never in all my life have I been more worried about the future.  And, I think, everyone in the country feels the same unease.  Jokes about moving to Canada, or leaving the country seem to plague social media.  I personally know friends who have unfriended people on Facebook because they support one candidate or another.  Rallies and conventions are in the news media because of violence and hate crimes.

Is this what America is about?  Is this the type of nation we truly want to become?

I have struggled over questions like these because there seems so little I as one person can do.

But it seems that Anonymous shares some of my concerns and has declared total war on Donald Trump.

Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing. Your inconsistent and hateful campaign has not only shocked the United States of America, you have shocked the entire planet with your appalling actions and ideas. You say what your current audience wants to hear, but in reality, you don’t stand for anything except for your personal greed and power.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming election?

Who I’m Voting For

It’s no secret that I despise politics.  However, with a Presidential election on the horizon, political poison seems to be everywhere.

I want a candidate who refuses to demonize their political opponents or attack them personally. Anyone who wants to lead The United States of America should be mature enough to respect their opponent while still being wildly at odds with their political positions.

Having worked in sales for the last several years, I understand the need to differentiate yourself from your competition, but I would never speak ill or poorly of a competitor. What does that accomplish besides making you look petty.  This kind of advice holds true to so many things…past jobs during interviews and ex girlfriends or boyfriends during dates.  Smashing your competition never makes you look good.

I’m voting for the person who never attacks groups of people for their race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, their wealth, or lack thereof as a way to get themselves elected.  I’ve seen personally, within my own family, the devastating effect this kind of mentality can have, and I want no part of it!

I would vote for the candidate whose personal behavior is in line with what they profess to believe.  A man or women with a personal code of conduct and rules they live by.

I will vote for a leader believes a better future is possible, and they work towards that future.  They will set an incredible example for good work ethic, tenacity, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

I would vote for the candidate who makes no promises that they have no way of keeping, and if they make a promise they can’t keep, I want a candidate that will own up to his/her mistake, and apologize.

I would vote for the candidate whose vision is so big that it inspires the rest of us.

So there you have it.  These are the qualities I want, and these are the qualities I will vote for.
